Travelers on Kūhiō Highway in Waikoko should expect delays due to a 24/7 single-lane closure on Route 560 between Waikoko Bridge and the Lumahaʻi Trailhead near mile post 4.7, starting Tuesday next week. The closure is necessary for hill stabilization work at the Waikoko slope and is expected to last for six to eight months, depending on soil conditions, according to the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation.
Traffic signals will be used to control the flow of cars through the construction zone. During the first 24 hours of signal operation, flaggers will be present to ensure the signals function properly and address any issues with the transition. The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph in the area where workers will be present from Monday to Saturday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
First responders have been informed of the new traffic patterns and are prepared for any emergencies or signal malfunctions.
