A significant structure fire broke out on the afternoon of February 11 at an apartment building located at 20211 W Sherman Way in Winnetka. According to an alert from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the blaze began showing from the second floor of a two-story garden-style apartment, threatening to spread to an adjacent structure. Firefighting units, first on the scene, reported the fire at approximately 3:42 PM.
A subsequent update from the department indicated that firefighters were to aggressively battle the fire, which had spread and enveloped the structure next door. In total, around 100 firefighters were called to the scene, arriving with the necessary equipment and resolve to contain the incident. The LAFD's official documentation of events indicated that the flames in both buildings were successfully knocked down within 39 minutes.
Remarkably, amidst the chaos and intensity of the firefighting efforts, there were no injuries reported. Firefighters continued to work on scene, engaging in "overhaul" operations to ensure that any potential hidden hot spots were addressed and to prevent a possible reignition, as per the LAFD.
