An investigation is underway after a fatal incident where a car plunged into the North Canadian River, leading to the death of an individual early Saturday morning. A fisherman dialed 911 upon discovering the submerged truck while Oklahoma City Police confirmed its removal and the fatality, with emergency teams quickly attending to the scene near Route 66. KFOR reported that parts of the westbound lane were blocked to enable the emergency operations.
The tragedy struck close by at Lake Overholser where authorities located a submerged vehicle with a deceased adult male inside. The police are yet to release the identity of the man as the circumstances leading up to the vehicle's descent into the river remain unclear. Witnesses who might have to crucially piece together the day's events are urged to come forward. This story was first brought to light by News 9, noting the immediate response of the local police to the scene.
Emergency response crews, including divers, had to navigate the cold waters to recover the body from the wreckage. The operation drew local attention, with KOCO 5 crews capturing the scene where the responder's faces reflected a grim narrative of loss that is all too familiar on these stretches of road.
The police are continuing to investigate the incidents and have not yet issued a statement on the possible connection between the two separate occurrences, if any.
