In the dead of night, Las Vegas experienced a somber moment on its bustling streets; a pedestrian, whose identity is still pending, met a tragic end when a 2022 Nissan Altima collided with them on the crossroads of East Desert Inn Road and Pawnee Drive. The collision, which took place on Sunday, at approximately 12:03 AM, ended fatally for the pedestrian, marking the 17th traffic-related death this year within the jurisdiction of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Initial investigations by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section point toward a sequence of events where the unmarked pedestrian stepped into the approaching Altima's path, the consequences of which redirected them to the west where they eventually came to rest, though investigations continue and details remain forthcoming. The 29-year-old driver of the Nissan, identified as Sope Jr. Faga from North Las Vegas, stopped his vehicle in a controlled manner and cooperated with authorities; he was found not to be under the influence at the time of the incident.
Emergency responders determined the pedestrian’s injuries were too severe to save, so they stopped trying to revive them. The driver was unhurt but is still under investigation. The intersection now stands as a reminder in the city's traffic records. More details from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's investigation will clarify what happened.
