A 29-year-old Las Vegas man is facing a murder charge after a 3-month-old boy died from skull fractures, a brain bleed and other injuries he suffered while in the man’s care. Mileke Loven Williams was watching the infant, identified as Kai Phan, while the boy’s mother was at work when the child suffered what police described as a non-survivable intracranial injury.

Williams called 911 on Sept. 25, 2025, seeking paramedics for an infant in cardiac arrest, according to a police arrest report cited by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. When paramedics arrived, they noticed bruising on Kai’s forehead and the right side of his head, police said. The infant was rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where police were told he had suffered a non-survivable intracranial injury.

Weeks on Life Support Before Infant’s Death

Kai remained hospitalized until Oct. 2, 2025, when he died, the newspaper reported. An autopsy showed he had skull and rib fractures, a massive brain bleed and swelling, and forehead bruising, according to police.

Williams now faces a murder charge in connection with the infant’s death, along with a felony count of child abuse causing substantial bodily harm, the Review-Journal reported.

Williams’ Shifting Account to Police

According to police, Williams initially told investigators that Kai would not stop crying while in his care. He also reported that the baby spit up formula when he attempted to feed him and that Kai’s eyes were gazing and rolling, police said. Williams told police he put the infant in a swing after the child vomited and noticed his breathing had become labored several minutes later, prompting the 911 call.

Police allege Williams stopped cooperating with investigators as the case progressed. Authorities said Williams had not participated further in the investigation and was uncooperative. As of the Review-Journal’s report, Williams had not yet been appointed an attorney.

Prior Conviction on Record

Arrest records and Nevada Department of Corrections records show Williams had previously spent time in prison for a 2023 conviction for battery causing substantial bodily harm, according to the Review-Journal.

A Separate Case With Echoes

Las Vegas has seen comparable allegations before. In a 2024 case unrelated to Kai Phan’s death, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded to a call about an unresponsive one-year-old, Kai Tesoro, according to FOX5 Vegas. A doctor told officers Tesoro had bruising to his head, a fracture to his right leg, and needed to be sedated and placed on a ventilator, with hospital staff saying the injuries were consistent with non-accidental trauma. Tesoro was taken off life support on June 6, 2024, and later died at Summerlin Hospital; an autopsy found his injuries consistent with shaking back and forth, according to doctors cited in that report. In that case, Christian Moniz Rabino told FOX5 he was not Tesoro’s father but had been in the child’s life for six months.
