Members of the so-called Bag Tawk Entertainment (BTE) drug operation are no longer conducting business on the streets of St. Petersburg, following the final sentencing of the group. Cortez Haugabook, 34, known as "Traffic," has been sentenced to over 25 years in prison for his role in drug trafficking activities. Yesterday, U.S. District Judge Katherine Kimball Mizelle handed down a sentence of 25 years and 10 months after Haugabook pleaded guilty to charges including conspiracy to distribute significant quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine. This news comes according to a press release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Law enforcement agents uncovered connections between Haugabook and his associates, alongside other BTE members, using properties in Pinellas County to not only make but also sell narcotics. In an attempt to understand fully the depth of this operation, video evidence outlined BTE members boasting their illegal endeavors. These digital footprints, showcasing the manufacturing process and selling tactics, were accompanied by lyrics glorifying their drug trade lifestyle, all of which played a crucial role in the case against the drug trafficking organization.
The collective efforts of Torri McLaurin, Kristian Brown, and Javontah Harris, along with Haugabook, resulted in a sprawling network that held sway in the narcotics underworld of St. Pete’s streets. However, with Haugabook’s sentencing, the judicial curtain has been drawn over the BTE's operations. Haugabook, who was nabbed for his involvement in the intention to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, 40 grams or more of fentanyl, and an unspecified amount of cocaine, is the last of the organization's members to receive federal prison time.
The conclusion of this case signifies the determined efforts of federal law enforcement to stem the flow of drugs into communities and, specifically, the dismantling of the BTE stronghold. Haugabook's verdict serves to signal to those caught up in the drug trade that the law is intent to not just pursue but also put an end to such criminal enterprises. With this final sentence, the remaining threads of Bag Tawk Entertainment's presence in the narcotics market have been effectively severed.
