Yesterday at Pittsburgh International Airport, a fire broke out within a construction site, engulfing a trailer in flames. The blaze was reported around noon, according to WPXI. Allegheny County 911 dispatchers quickly responded, sending first responders to the scene.
Despite the potential for disruption, an airport spokesperson assured that the fire was successfully contained to the trailer near the parking area of the construction site, which was in a non-public area and not near any of the terminals. The spokesperson stated, as per WTAE, "airport crews extinguished a fire." They confirmed there were no injuries, and airport operations continued without impact. By 1:30 p.m., the flames had been extinguished.
The cause of the fire is still unclear, and the Allegheny County Fire Marshal is leading the investigation. As the investigation continues, details are limited.
Although the immediate danger has been addressed, the fire raises concerns about safety at the airport, especially during ongoing construction. The fire marshal’s findings may influence safety standards for similar projects in the future.
