A firearm was discovered at Thomas Williams Elementary School yesterday, prompting a safety review at the school, located near East Lake Mead Boulevard and North Pecos Road. In a letter to parents, Principal Carrie Reasbeck affirmed her commitment to student safety, stating "As principal, my top priority is to ensure your child is safe at school and to keep you informed of important matters happening within our school community," as reported by News 3 Las Vegas.
School administrators were quick to confiscate the firearm from a student and move to report the matter to the Clark County School District Police for investigation. No injuries were connected to the discovery.
In response, the school reinforced the availability of the SafeVoice reporting system. This tool allows students and parents to confidentially report safety concerns. Communications can be made by calling 1-833-216-SAFE(7233), through the school's website, or via a free downloadable phone app, as highlighted by 8 News Now.
The details regarding the student involved and any potential disciplinary actions have been kept confidential. The ongoing investigation by the CCSD police aims to resolve the current issue and work toward preventing similar incidents in the future.
