Early Monday morning, firefighters responding to a blaze in Los Angeles' Historic South-Central neighborhood stumbled upon a marijuana grow operation. The scene at the 3900 block of Broadway Place was bustling as crews worked to quell the fire that had taken hold of a 10,000-square-foot building. According to a report from KTLA, the incident was reported just before 4 a.m.
Upon making entry, firefighters discovered multiple cannabis plants and light smoke within the structure. It emerged that an adjacent motorhome, parked outside the structure, had also ignited. Despite the intensity of the fire, officials reported no injuries at the event, which was, firefighters made the operation's discovery even more perplexing, shrouded in uncertainty whether the cannabis cultivation was above or below the law's horizon.
Additional details were provided by a Los Angeles Fire Department alert, which explained that the fire originated in a wall that had been exposed to the outside RV fire. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire swiftly after locating it. The alert also noted that the affected commercial building measured 50 by 200.
According to Lyndsey Lantz, the LAFD spokesperson, "Firefighters made access to the building, identified as a grow operation, and identified light smoke inside."
