A traffic mishap occurred Monday afternoon on State Highway 71 in eastern Travis County, leaving five individuals hurt. According to CBS Austin, emergency response teams arrived at the 5200 block of East SH 71 westbound around 12:25 p.m. and discovered one person entrapped in a vehicle.
Response efforts were expansive, and law enforcement advised drivers to expect delays near Richards Drive. To properly handle the situation four ambulances and a STAR Flight helicopter were dispatched. One victim remains in critical condition, while the other four are reported to have sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, informed KXAN.
All involved parties were transported from the crash site for medical attention, Austin-Travis County EMS stated. The precise number of vehicles involved in the crash has not been released, but the presence of multiple emergency units including Travis County Fire Rescue and Austin Fire Department, suggest the impact was severe. Additional coordination was provided by two district commanders on site.
Motorists in the area, specifically those planning to use the stretch of road westbound near Garfield, southeast of Austin, were advised to find alternate routes or to be prepared to encounter delays. The crash involved a vehicle rescue operation, which was resolved by 1:06 p.m. with all of the injured parties having been transported from the scene, KXAN disclosed.
