Fleming Island is about to see some new infrastructure with the announcement of a forthcoming two-lane roadway expected to begin construction in late summer 2025. The planned extension will see Radar Road elongate until it meets Town Center Boulevard right at the existing traffic circle, creating a new connection that promises to enhance local transit.
As reported by Clay County Government's official website, beyond the utility of linking U.S. 17 to Town Center Boulevard, the roadwork includes additional features to accommodate those not in cars. Cyclists too can anticipate added bike lanes, and the county has plans for installing curbs and gutters alongside updated drainage systems—an upgrade for both accessibility and stormwater management.
The county has also set the date for a public meeting. This coming March 10, at 4 p.m., interested citizens are encouraged to head to the Fleming Island Library to discover more details about the project. The meeting will feature presentations by the associated design firm and by County staff. It's a chance for the community to come face to face with those shaping the traffic patterns and infrastructure of their everyday lives.
