A Fort Collins man is now behind bars following his arrest for the alleged creation and possession of child sexual abuse materials, as confirmed by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. Officials launched an investigation into Christopher Kyle Shaffar, 40, after receiving a cybercrime tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in August of 2023, which pointed to an unknown individual in Larimer County associated with such offensive materials.
Authorities executed a search warrant at Shaffar's home in November 2023, where they recovered over 3,700 illicit images and videos of infants, children, and teens, and through meticulous digital forensics, investigators determined that Shaffar had personal contact with at least two of the minors depicted in the content according to Larimer County Sheriff's Office. Shaffar faces multiple charges including Sexual Exploitation of a Child and Unlawful Sexual Contact, he was booked into the Larimer County Jail in late January 2025 with a bond set at $400,000 cash-only.
"These cases are tough cases to work on a lot of levels," Sgt. Tyson Russell, head of the LCSO Criminal Impact Unit said, as per Larimer County Sheriff's Office. Members of the public with any further information on Shaffar or the investigation are urged to contact Investigator Justin Atwood, or to reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Larimer County.
