Fort Lauderdale residents should prepare for disruptions as the city partners with FG Construction, LLC to upgrade the stormwater system in the Galt Mile neighborhood. The project, focused on NE 33rd Avenue south of NE 32nd Street and a section of the adjacent alleyway, aims to replace a 15-inch French drain and install two new catch basins, as well as extend the stormwater system in the alleyway to connect to the current network at NE 33rd Avenue and NE 32nd Street.

According to the City of Fort Lauderdale, the work also includes repairing curbing and asphalt. The project began on January 20 with an initial focus on mapping underground utilities. However, delays in material availability have pushed the completion date to April. Work hours are set from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but these may change due to weather or other issues.

The construction is causing daily disruptions. Access to the alleyway east of NE 33rd Avenue, just south of NE 32nd Street, will be restricted during work hours, and local businesses will coordinate schedules for access. Pedestrians and drivers will encounter closed sidewalks and parking spaces along the east side of NE 33rd Avenue, between NE 32nd Street and the alleyway. Two-way traffic on NE 33rd Avenue may also face temporary inconveniences as traffic control guides are in place during peak construction times. Motorists are advised to follow posted signs and drive cautiously through the area. For more details or to report issues, residents can contact project manager Deborah Cueva at 954-828-5807 or [email protected], or the Fort Lauderdale Neighbor Service Center at 954-828-8000 or [email protected]. "We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and thank our neighbors for their patience during construction," the City of Fort Lauderdale states.
