Last month, a calculated attempt to snatch an ATM by a crew from the Houston area was thwarted by the vigilant Fort Worth police, resulting in a series of arrests. Having received a tip-off about a planned heist in their city, officers undertook surveillance operations and tracked three vehicles to a bank on Hulen Street, as detailed by FOX 7 Austin. One of these vehicles, a Ford F250 involved in the attempted heist, had its own story of theft.
The police sprang into action as three of the suspects emerged wielding a pry bar and a sledgehammer, and began their attack on the ATM, attempting to pull it from its cemented sanctuary with tow straps. With the stolen truck and the rest of their equipment, the suspected ATM theft crew birthed from Houston unfortunately never saw the completion of their efforts. Seven individuals were arrested at the bank by Fort Worth police, four of whom were stationed in what were believed to be lookout vehicles, according to CBS News Texas.
The collaborative efforts of Fort Worth officers and the Texas DPS Aircraft Operations Division halted the theft, bringing individuals aged between 23 and 40 into custody. Together, they face charges for engaging in organized criminal activity, with three among the arrested also charged with evading arrest. Through the convergence of cutting-edge surveillance technology and robust law enforcement, a potent message has been sent to organized crime; their deeds in darkness will be brought into the light.
Arrested were Jemarkus Bogany, 23, Eric Davenport, 40, Traveon Odoms-Lopez, 37, Letrevious Pegese, 23, Mitchell Prince, 23, Andre Varnado, 30, and Andreius Wynn-Farley, 29. This crew, with prior suspected involvement in Fort Worth's ATM thefts, stands accused of two counts of engaging in organized criminal activity. Lamentably for them, the surveillance team had them wrapped in their investigative weave before the January 16 attempt, sussing out the strings of several past ATM heists. These allegations will trail after their tales as they wend their way through the judiciary.
As of now, investigators continue to work diligently, piecing together evidence to determine if this apprehended crew is linked to other ATM thefts in Fort Worth and perhaps beyond.
