Thousand Oaks experienced a shakeup last week when a residential burglary crew was nabbed after a heist in the upscale community. According to a press release by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, the swift capture of the robbers last Friday was largely thanks to the prompt action of locals who reported the burglary as it unfolded.
The incident, which resulted in the arrest of four suspects, kicked off when deputies responded to a call for service in the 2700 block of Queens Way. Charged for their involvement were Aaron Diaz Mora, 20, Javier Vidal Navarrete, 28, Miguel Angel Munoz Ordonez, 22, and Sebastian Tonelly Chavarriga, 30. In an attempt to flee, the suspects were all arrested near the scene.
The investigation post-arrest was spearheaded by the East County Investigations Bureau, which quickly determined that the suspects were tied to a South American Theft Group Burglary Crew, as detailed by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. Evidence collected by detectives on the scene also linked the individuals to another burglary that took place earlier that evening in Thousand Oaks.
All implicated parties are currently facing charges, including PC 459 for residential burglary and PC 182(a)(1) for conspiracy to commit a crime, among others. Of note, Javier Vidal Navarrete was found to have outstanding felony warrants for burglary in Riverside County and San Bernardino County. "The arrest of these suspects was made possible by the citizens of Thousand Oaks and their quick decision to call the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office to report these crimes," stated Detective Kevin Walters in the press release.
The suspects remain in custody, with bail set at $250,000 each. Their arraignment took place on Tuesday, February 11 at 1:30 pm in the Ventura County Superior Court. In the wake of these events, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office issued a reminder for citizens to stay vigilant and proactively report any suspicious activity.
