In a display of interagency teamwork, the Galt Police Department announced the rescue of two dogs that found themselves in peril, as rising waters threatened their safety while they were helplessly tied up. The incident, which occurred near the Dry Creek Preserve area at the intersection of Wilder Way and Wise Way, triggered an emergency response after a concerned citizen reported the situation.
According to the Facebook post by the Galt Police Department, the officers faced the challenges posed by a heavily flooded zone that made finding the two dogs difficult, despite hearing their barks. Responding with urgency, the Cosumnes Fire Department deployed a water rescue raft in a coordinated rescue effort.
Ultimately, the two dogs, identified as a German Shepherd and a Belgian Malinois, were saved from the encroaching waters, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the police, fire department, and Bradshaw Animal Shelter. The animals were subsequently placed in the caring hands of Sacramento County Animal Control for a thorough medical examination, ensuring their health and well-being after such a distressing ordeal.
The Galt Police Department continued to state, "Officers were able to identify their owner" after the rescued dogs were scanned for microchips. As efforts to re-establish the canines with their owner progressed, the department emphasized, "Our investigation is ongoing as attempt to locate the owner of the dogs," highlighting their commitment to addressing the potential case of animal cruelty that led to the perilous situation.
