The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently looking into an incident involving a Georgia State Patrol officer in Gordon County. The scene unfolded when officers attempted to detain a man accused of murder, resulting in gunfire and the suspect’s injury. According to the GBI's official report, no officers were harmed during the encounter.
Details released by the GBI explain that the Georgia State Patrol SWAT team was supporting the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office to arrest the murder suspect. The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Christopher Lee Dixon of Resaca, GA, was discovered under a trailer in a crawl space. The SWAT team tried to tase Dixon after being located, but he allegedly continued to be combative. In the ensuing struggle, reported without injuries, Dixon was armed with a rifle and was shot by the troopers.
Dixon continued to resist arrest even after being shot, as per the GBI's narrative. Subsequent to being secured, Dixon was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Following medical care, plans were made for his transfer to the Gordon County Jail. The severity of Dixon's injuries has not been a subject of emphasis in official communications from the GBI or the police.
The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office has charged Dixon with both arson and murder. These warrants preceded the altercation and served as the impetus for Dixon's pursuit by law enforcement. With an independent investigation by the GBI underway, the focus now shifts to the meticulous gathering of facts and evidence. Upon completion of this inquiry, the GBI will submit its findings to the Gordon County District Attorney’s Office for a comprehensive review and adjudication.
