The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently delving into an officer-involved shooting in Columbus, with one Jacob Kyle Brannon at the center of the inquiry. This follows a request by the Columbus Police Department after an incident left Brannon, 25, wounded when a domestic dispute escalated into gunfire.
Details from the GBI press release revealed yesterday that a Columbus police responded to the escalating situation between a man and woman on 42nd Street. Brannon reportedly fled and fired at the pursuing officer, prompting the officer to return shots and ultimately striking Brannon several times. There were no officers injured during this exchange.
The aftermath saw Brannon admitted to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition. Upon his release from the hospital, he is expected to be booked into the Muscogee County Jail. The specifics of Brannon's charges are not detailed within current reporting by the GBI.
Meanwhile, the GBI's investigations are still in motion. They encourage anyone bearing information to reach out to their Columbus Regional Investigative Office, or provide anonymous tips through calling, their website, or the See Something, Send Something mobile app. The ultimate fate of the case will rest in the hands of the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office, which will review the case file post-investigation.
