At a Parent Empowerment Night held at Athens Christian Preparatory Academy, Governor Abbott discussed the bipartisan appeal of school choice among Texans.

"School choice is very popular among Texans," the Governor stated. "It doesn't matter which political party you're in; a majority of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents support school choice." Governor Abbott emphasized in a press release, the support for school choice crosses political, racial, and regional divides. Governor Abbott highlighted that school choice appeals to a diverse group of people seeking educational improvement.

Governor Abbott has designated school choice as an emergency item for this legislative session. His support also includes Education Savings Accounts and the Texas Parent-Directed Special Education Services program, which he plans to expand during the current legislative session.

Joining the Governor at the event were local and state officials, including Representative Keith Bell, Representative Cody Harris, Athens Mayor Aaron Smith, and Texas Public Policy Foundation Campaign Director Mandy Drogin. Each expressed their support for school choice, which Abbott has identified as important for shaping the future of Texas.

In his State of the State Address, Abbott designated school choice as an emergency item, highlighting education as a key issue for his administration. With the stakes high, Abbott is joined by stakeholders who support his goal of a reformed, parent-driven educational system in Texas.
