Hanalei residents along Ohiki Road experienced an abrupt halt in their water service today due to emergency repairs being performed by the Department of Water (DOW), the interruption began around noon and left taps dry as crews tackled issues within the mainline infrastructure.

The shutdown, announced earlier, was expected to last about 6 hours. The DOW was swift with their updates, keeping the community informed via social media about the progress of the necessary repairs.

The DOW restored service by 7:00 p.m., allowing residents to return to normal water use. The department confirmed the completion of the emergency main line repairs in a press release.
