
On Thursday, Detective Donovan Kohara of the Area II (Kona) Criminal Investigation Section was recognized with the Haweo Award for his investigative work and commitment to community safety. The ceremony took place at the Hawai‘i County Council chambers in Kona, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Detective Kohara has served with the Hawaii Police Department for 19 years, working in Area II despite opportunities to transfer. In the past year, he investigated 90 cases, including homicides, assaults, and other criminal offenses. He has worked in areas with limited resources, focusing on crime prevention and building community relationships.
With a strong commitment to solving cases and supporting his colleagues, Detective Kohara collaborates on high-profile criminal investigations and advocates for crime prevention strategies. His contributions have earned him the Haweo Award, recognizing his importance to the Hawaii Police Department and the community.
