The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) is spearheading the 20th Annual National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) Fair, set to educate Hawai'i residents on consumer rights and the avoidance of frauds and scams. According to the DCCA, the event will unfold on March 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on the fourth floor of the Hawai‘i State Capitol.
Dedicated to heightening public understanding of consumer protection, this year's NCPW runs from March 3 to March 9. Garnering support from government agencies and consumer groups, the Fair will be a hub for over two dozen vendors imparting information and strategies designed to arm consumers with the necessary know-how to engage the market safely. In a video provided by the DCCA, having taken place in previous years, the Fair showcases a wealth of resources and hands-on assistance to those looking to bolster their defenses against increasingly sophisticated financial threats.
As reported by the DCCA, visitors to the Capitol will undergo metal detection screening, operational from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, as part of enhanced security measures. Attendees can access the Capitol Complex through various checkpoints, including two street-level elevator Cores at specific corners and a main basement entrance, the urgency stressed for early arrival to accommodate the additional security procedures.
In addition to event previews, attendees are encouraged to take part in this gathering, which has traditionally provided Hawaii's residents with resources to make informed financial and personal decisions, contributing to a more knowledgeable consumer community.
