The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) is warning drivers about upcoming traffic delays due to the transportation of modular homes for wildfire survivors in Lahaina. The homes will be moved from Kahului to the Ka Laʻi Ola housing site, according to a Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) release. This operation will take place over several nights, including last night and tonight, and again from Wednesday to Friday next week, starting at 9:30 p.m. each night.
The transport will involve a convoy of trucks and escorts due to the size of the modular homes. Traffic slowdowns can be expected, especially on Kahului Beach Road, Kaʻahumanu Avenue, and other highways leading to Lahaina.
Additionally, the transport will require road use during morning hours on Monday and Wednesday next week, from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Large trucks will carry the homes from Kahului Harbor to the staging site. Traffic signs and controllers will be in place to manage delays and ensure safety.
