The Healthcare Foundation of Wilson, well-known for its commitment to enhancing health in the local community, has once again extended its reach, this time by partnering with the Wilson County Cooperative Extension. Together, they aim to encourage healthier eating habits and more physically active lifestyles among residents. According to a press release by the Wilson County government, this partnership has already started to bear fruit.

Yesterday, in the previously mentioned press release, their collaboration was recently demonstrated through an event hosted by the Wilson County Cooperative Extension last Friday. The event was a part of the YMCA's Y-GIG Afterschool Program and introduced the Global Gourmet class to a piece of Japanese culture. The funding, a result of an initiative by the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson, provided necessary culinary tools, including cooking utensils and fresh ingredients, paving the way for these students to try their hands at making sushi. "The grant provided by the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson allowed them to purchase ingredients and update supplies to enhance the experience," revealed the Wilson County news post.

The efforts from employees at the Wilson County Cooperative Extension, including Taylor Crumpler (Family and Consumer Sciences Agent), Kenyatta Dixon (4-H Agent), and Allison Matthews (4-H Agent), harvested the support they needed. In March of 2024, they successfully applied for the North Carolina Cooperative Extension's Healthy Living Program grant, illustrating their dedication to improving the well-being of their community. The grant not only covered the culinary class supplies but also spanned a wider range of needs. It furnished the essentials for other health-forward activities such as cooking competitions and C.A.T.C.H. class supplies.

The impact of this partnership extends beyond a one-time class, as the grant will support an array of programs aimed at both youth and adults. From canning supplies to general kitchen equipment, the initiative is a testament to the foundation's commitment to fostering an environment where healthy living is accessible and enjoyable. The backing from the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson indeed provided the Cooperative Extension.
