With an eye on future economic growth, the City of Henderson has taken a step forward in strengthening its labor market by releasing a Skill Gap Analysis report. The report, part of a wider examination of the region's economic competitiveness, sheds light on the lack of trained workers in various industries and offers strategic recommendations to address these deficiencies through targeted education and training initiatives. The analysis builds on the city's previous Target Industry Analysis and includes a new, innovative dashboard for tracking progress.
The findings point to a positive outlook for target industries, a direct result of the area’s expansion over the last decade. Nonetheless, the Skill Gap Analysis identified a critical need for more employees with the essential skills necessary to fill roles in production, technical, and corporate sectors. In an effort to swiftly close these gaps, Henderson is looking to fortify its workforce by fostering public-private partnerships, streamlining the qualification process, and actively promoting skill acquisition among the city's residents.
"Our goal is to remain at the forefront of aligning our workforce pipeline with the current and future needs of the industries we seek to grow and attract," Jared Smith, Director of Economic Development and Tourism, expressed in a statement to the City of Henderson. "This Skills Gap Analysis provides us visibility into, and strategic recommendations for, bolstering our talent pipeline and workforce development assets."
Henderson is investing in both the present and future by focusing on workforce development. Through the Skill Gap Analysis, the city aims to support its strategic priority of Economic Vitality, ensuring that its labor market is equipped to meet the needs of a changing economy.
