In a coordinated effort of air and ground rescue teams, a hiker was recently extricated from Red Rock's Calico 1 trail after an unfortunate misstep led to a serious leg injury. According to details shared by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue (LVMPD SAR) via Instagram, the incident happened Sunday evening, with the first emergency call at around 7 p.m.
The hiker's accident unraveled as they were trekking back with a companion, and a tumble led to an injury that rendered further movement impossible. With haste, the friend embarked on the journey to the trailhead, deciding to seek help upon reaching the parking lot. The Clark County Fire Department (CCFD) from Station 28, and not long after, the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue (LVFR) from Station 44, dispatched members who traversed the rugged paths to make their patient's acquaintance.
AIR1, the eye in the sky for LVMPD SAR, soared soon afterward, piercing the gathering twilight. A Search and Rescue officer took flight, descending into the terrain via hoist to reach the injured hiker. Secured in a "hot seat," a rescue device, the victim was hoisted skyward to be delivered to the waiting hands of additional care. After the incident in the Red Rock area, LVMPD SAR thanked everyone for their cooperation: "Thanks to our partner agencies CCFD and LVFR for their help."
