Hillsborough County is rolling out its Rapid Response team to handle a substantial cleanup project in the Clair Mel East and Clair Mel West neighborhoods. The action comes as part of a concerted effort to improve local aesthetics, health, and safety, while proactively addressing illegal dumping and code violations that can drive down property values. According to a report by Hillsborough County, residents in these areas can set out large waste items for curbside pickup, an initiative funded through annual solid waste assessments.

Starting tomorrow through Friday, those living in Clair Mel East will have the opportunity to discard a variety of bulky items, such as furniture and electronics, directly at their curbside. The Rapid Response team will then haul away these materials. In a similar fashion, Clair Mel West residents get their turn from March 3 to March 7. However, there are specific boundaries for this service that residents must reside within to participate in the cleanup. For the Clair Mel East area, these borders span from Eau Claire Circle in the north to Causeway Boulevard in the south, and from Selmon Expressway in the east to 78th Street South in the west. Clair Mel West has similar defined limits for the service.

Items eligible for removal include furniture, junk and debris, metals, electronics, and a limit of five non-commercial tires per household. For this initiative to run smoothly, residents are encouraged by Hillsborough County to place their items by 5 a.m. on the designated collection days, with an emphasis on placing them the night before. "The cleanup opportunity is funded through annual solid waste assessments paid by community property owners," the Hillsborough County stated, highlighting the intertwined responsibility and benefits for local proprietors.

There are, however, some restrictions regarding what can be left out for pickup. Yard waste, commercial vehicle tires, and hazardous chemicals will not be accepted. Hillsborough County Code Enforcement is urging residents to take advantage of this opportunity to not only dispose of unwanted items but to also bring their property up to code and sidestep potential violations. For those seeking additional details or clarification, the County has made further information available through Code Enforcement which can be reached at (813) 274-6600.
