
An investigation is currently underway by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office regarding the death of an inmate at Falkenburg Road Jail. According to the Sheriff's Office, 52-year-old Marshall Nelson was found unresponsive on Tuesday, after allegedly attempting to take his own life.
Detention deputies discovered Nelson hanging from a bedsheet tied to a shower door in his cell; they initiated emergency procedures and were soon joined by medical staff in an attempt to save Nelson's life, he was then rushed to a local hospital for further treatment, as per the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Despite their efforts, Nelson was pronounced dead the following day, and details surrounding his demise will be clarified pending an examination by the Medical Examiner's Office, Nelson's family has been notified of the tragic event.
Nelson had been in custody at the Falkenburg Road Jail since January 30, when he was arrested and charged with 100 counts of possession of child pornography. The investigation by the Sheriff's Office is reported to be ongoing, more information is expected to be made public when available.
