Early Tuesday in Alief, Houston, a car owner shot and killed a man he found rummaging through his vehicle. According to Click2Houston, the owner retrieved a gun from his apartment and told the man to exit the car. The man responded, "If you’re gonna do it, do it," and lunged at the owner, who then fired.
The shooter is cooperating with the Houston Police Department. Investigators are determining whether to file charges or present the case to a grand jury with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Houston PD Homicide Detective Juan Diaz said, "In all instances, it’s usually beneficial and probably best to call the authorities if it’s a life and death situation." The owner stated he acted to protect his property, as reported by Click2Houston.
By 6:30 a.m., Houston homicide detectives had secured an area where a body was found in a car, awaiting the medical examiner. The car owner was detained for questioning but not charged. The investigation is ongoing, as stated by KHOU 11.
