Authorities have arrested 21-year-old William Emmanuel Martinez Landaverde in connection with the shooting death of 18-year-old Jason Perez on January 31 at an apartment complex on Renwick Drive. Martinez Landaverde, facing capital murder charges, was initially arrested on unrelated charges before being linked to the fatal shooting, according to a Houston Police Department release.
Perez was found with gunshot wounds by Houston Police Department officers and Houston Fire Department paramedics. The investigation initially pointed to two unidentified male suspects involved in a robbery-turned-homicide. The suspects were described as wearing black hoodies and blue jeans and fleeing in a gray or silver sedan. Martinez Landaverde was later connected to the incident through further investigation.
Martinez Landaverde is now charged in the 230th State District Court. The Houston Police Department continues its investigation into the circumstances surrounding Perez's death. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
