
A tragic event unfolded early this morning on Sunnyside Street in Houston, claiming the life of a pedestrian. At approximately 7:30 a.m. at the 800 block of Sunnyside Street, Houston police began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian, according to a report from the Houston Police Department. The collision resulted in the death of a 68-year-old man, whose name has yet to be released pending family notification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The incident involved a 20-year-old driver of a black Honda Accord who was traveling eastbound when, failing to maintain a single lane, he struck the pedestrian walking on the side of the road, a consequence sadly borne out of there being no sidewalk and a fence thereafter. Despite being rushed to an area hospital, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Details from the HPD's report stated that Sgt. L. Ross and Officer L. Ho from the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division are overseeing the ongoing investigation.
The driver was questioned by authorities following the accident and showed no signs of intoxication, as per the initial police investigation. After the necessary questioning, the driver was released. The probe into the circumstances leading up to the crash remains active as officers work to piece together the events of this tragic morning.
