Two teenagers, a 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, are recovering in the hospital following yesterday's shootout with police at a southeast Houston apartment complex. The incident began when the apartment management suspected unauthorized activity in a vacant unit at the Colonial Park Apartments, located at 8360 Park Place Blvd. Management, alongside the police, found the teens in the unit, one of whom was armed, as per Click2Houston.
The suspects attempted to evade capture, breaking a window and jumping out to flee, it was then shots were fired. The exchange of gunfire resulted in the boy being shot and the girl sustaining lacerations from the glass. Both were subsequently arrested and transported to the hospital, with the boy undergoing surgery at Memorial Hermann. No officers were injured in the confrontation, which was lauded by the police department for their officers' "quick and brave response during the dangerous situation," according to Click2Houston.
The investigation, which is exploring the teens' possible involvement in other criminal activities, including home invasions, has raised concerns within the community. A local resident highlighted concerns about safety, particularly in relation to their grandson performing everyday tasks like taking out the trash, "I just tell him to go and come right back in," the resident told ABC13.
