Residents of Houston can look forward to a mix of foggy mornings and sunny afternoons as this week's weather pattern sets in, with high temperatures hovering around the 70s to start. Commuters should expect patchy fog between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. today, followed by sunshine and a high near 70 degrees. Calm conditions are anticipated to give way to a light southeast breeze in the afternoon. As the night falls, the "patchy fog after 2am" will return, yet the skies will largely remain clear, dipping to a low around 48 degrees with a gentle south wind, according to the National Weather Service.
Looking ahead, the forecast from the NWS indicates sunny skies will persist through the weekend with daytime highs inching upwards, hitting near 74 on Sunday and possibly reaching 80 by Tuesday, nightly lows will also see a gradual increase, starting at around 58 on Sunday night and potentially reaching up to 67 by Wednesday night. It's not all clear skies, however; Monday night will witness "areas of fog after 9pm," and while Tuesday will begin with foggy conditions, they're expected to clear after 9 a.m.
The weather isn't the only thing heating up in Houston this February. As reported by Click2Houston, locals are bracing for a month that's "slightly warmer and drier than average," a sharp departure from January’s cold. The average high should increase to 71° towards the month's end.
Add to the mix the promising increase in daylight—"by this Sunday (February 2nd) we will see our first sunset in the 6 p.m. hour since November 2" and the return of sunrises to the 6 a.m. hour by February 16—Houston is gaining significant daylight, approximately "90 seconds of sunlight a day resulting in an extra 45 minutes by Feb. 28th," a detail that many welcome after the shorter days of winter. To round off the celestial occurrences, the full moon on February 12, also known as the "snow moon," will illuminate Houston's nightscape, as per Click2Houston.
