Cedric Tyrone Walker, 43, from Humble, has been sentenced to 97 months in federal prison for assaulting a deputy U.S. marshal, causing permanent disfigurement. The jury convicted him on August 20, 2024, after a two-day trial with about two hours of deliberation. U.S. District Judge George C. Hanks also ordered three years of supervised release after the prison sentence, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
On December 27, 2022, an incident occurred when a man failed to return on time to a residential reentry center while serving a sentence for armed bank robbery. Law enforcement instructed that he be taken to a federal detention center, but he resisted. The individual struck a deputy U.S. marshal in the mouth with a closed fist, leading to a struggle. He was eventually restrained after being tasered twice. The injured marshal received emergency treatment, including 12 stitches for a lip laceration and two chipped teeth, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Walker’s defense argued that he was not responsible for the marshal’s injuries, but the jury convicted him. He has been in custody since the trial and will be transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility soon. The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Carrie Wirsing. During sentencing, Judge Hanks stated that the officer “showed up for work and then landed in the hospital as a result of Walker’s violent behavior,” as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
