Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is hitting the road this weekend, making a special stop in Rockingham County to recognize some of the folks who keep our community safe—and insured. Tomorrow, Causey is slated to bestow a total of eight awards at the Wentworth Fire Department, which calls the fairly nondescript building at 8365 NC Hwy. 87 in Reidsville home.
According to a press release from the North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI), the ceremony kicks off at 6 p.m. sharp. While Causey will hand out four Commissioner’s Awards, he will also present the prestigious Order of the Guardian Awards, which, just to be clear, is like the insurance industry's own version of a lifetime achievement award.
The Commissioner Awards, not to be confused with a participation trophy, are a big deal in their own right. They go to individuals or businesses that have notably swayed the world of insurance, ranging from fire and rescue services to emergency management and building inspections. And, while Causey is commending the winners for their standout influence, the bet is their stories are the kind that don't typically make the morning news.
Now, about those Order of the Guardian Awards that Causey is also dishing out—these are reserved for the veterans of the insurance game. This top-tier honor is dedicated to those with a whopping 40 or more years of knightly service in fields like fire and rescue and law enforcement, every one of which is overseen by the all-encompassing umbrella of NCDOI. With this kind of track record, the recipients are probably well-known among the local ladder-climbing set, establishing them as familiar faces in a crowd of helmets and badges.
