An extensive investigation by Irvine Police has culminated in the arrest of a couple accused of misappropriating nearly $5 million from an Irvine-based company. Gurpreet Kaur Lakhiani, 41, and Deepak Lakhiani, 40, now face multiple charges, including grand theft and embezzlement, after allegedly using the stolen funds to support an opulent lifestyle fraught with luxury cars, jewelry, and globetrotting, as reported by the Irvine Police Department.
The economic crimes investigator who has doggedly pursued the case over three years, finally saw the pair booked at Orange County Jail on 4.4 million dollar warrants, as per the Irvine Police Department.
The Irvine Police Department disclosed on their Facebook page that the suspected financial malfeasance spanned nearly a decade, from 2012 to 2021. This protracted period of deceit and theft led to the eventual downfall of the victim company, an unfortunate event that resulted in several individuals being suddenly thrust into unemployment. The loss was characterized as "significant" by authorities.
