Izzy's Steaks & Chops Set to Reopen in Marina with Modern Updates and Classic CharmSource: Google Street View

Steak enthusiasts and Marina locals have something to look forward to as Izzy's Steaks & Chops announces its highly anticipated reopening. The nearly four-decade stalwart of prime rib and nostalgic vibes will open its doors once again next Wednesday. Izzy's Steaks & Chops made the announcement on social media, inviting patrons to make reservations and hinting at the updates made to the bar, dining room, and private event spaces at their flagship location on Steiner Street.

Driven by legacy, Samantha Bechtel, daughter of the late founder Sam DuVall, took leadership of the family's restaurant group in 2020 and dedicated herself to renewing the classic establishment. Izzy's closure for renovations last summer meant a pause in its long history. Yet now, the San Carlos establishment has been serving quality cuts since 1987 and is ready to bring back the old-school charm with a modern twist, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Preserving the essence of Izzy's was a key objective for Bechtel, who remembers her father's passion for the restaurant and his interactions with guests. The remodel, executed by New York City's Gachot Studios, aimed to carry the spirit of Izzy's into the present while maintaining the architectural heartbeat of the space. It's a fine line between tradition and trend, but Bechtel told the San Francisco Chronicle, "It's my job to keep Izzy's soul alive. But, It could not be the same as when my dad opened the restaurant in 1987."

With a refreshed menu under the guidance of chef Daniel Lucero, the kitchen is ready to serve the classics and new inspirations that toe the line between local and European flavors. Lucero, who has worked at prestigious restaurants, including Thomas Keller's Bouchon Bistro and Italienne, aims to complement the preserved ambiance of the venue with dishes that appeal to traditional and contemporary tastes. His sourcing preference, for instance, includes beef from Creekstone Farms in Kansas, and menu highlights like Izzy's drunken shrimp and "the Gomes" prime rib continue to anchor the offerings with a renewed flair, per the San Francisco Chronicle.
