The City of Jacksonville is calling upon its residents of Oceanway to rally for the environment this weekend. In a notice shared on social media, the local government has outlined an opportunity for citizens to dispose of potentially dangerous materials that lie idle in the shadows of their homes. The announcement by the City of Jacksonville on Facebook beckons the community to contribute to a cleaner, safer ecology by participating in the Mobile Household Hazardous/E-Waste Collection Event slated for Saturday.
Residents can bring forth a spectrum of hazardous items to Oceanway Park, located at 12215 Sago Ave, from 9 am to 3 pm. The eclectic list includes, pesticides, motor oils, acids, fireworks, and even seemingly innocuous household items like fluorescent bulbs—all carrying the latent power to damage our delicate ecosystems if discarded carelessly. E-waste, such as televisions and computer monitors, are also accepted, though a cap of 3 Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs) and televisions per customer, will be enforced to manage the flow and processing of these materials.
With the rise of tech consumption, e-waste has burgeoned into an environmental behemoth, a global concern that the City of Jacksonville aims to tackle at the local level. Devices such as CPUs, printers, and handheld electronics fall into this category, making the collection event a vital junction for the community to divert these items from landfills where they can wreak havoc on our soil and water supply.
