The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) Victim Services Unit is now a touch more comforting for the youngest in our community, according to a recent post on the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office social media page. The department has received a donation of pillows intended to provide solace to children who find themselves amidst the oft-unsettling surroundings of police headquarters. The pillows, beyond being symbols of comfort, are imbued with the promise of ownership, as the children are allowed to take them home after their visit.
The kind gesture arrives courtesy of the Bridegan Foundation's Bexley Box program, which purposefully filled this specific need after the Victim Services team highlighted it. The array of colorful pillows and the small toys displayed in the foreground of the shared image suggest more than just amenities; they represent a tacit acknowledgment of the vulnerability of youth, and a bid to assuage their fears. "Our Victim Services team asked for pillows, so children who may have to visit our headquarters can feel a bit more comfortable," the JSO noted. In addition to the pillows, smaller toys will be distributed among Special Assault and Homicide detectives, and patrol officers, thus ensuring that these emblems of comfort follow wherever the need arises.
