An 18-year-old Jacksonville resident, Behrend Ludwig, has been arrested following a shooting incident at a soccer field in Oakleaf Plantation, Clay County, which resulted in a juvenile being injured. According to Action News Jax, the Clay County Sheriff's Office booked Ludwig into jail yesterday on charges of attempted murder.
Ludwig is accused of carrying out what the sheriff’s office described as a "targeted attack" after an altercation with the victim. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office stated they were able to quickly to identify and apprehend the suspect, thanks to tips from the community. "I want to personally thank our deputies and detectives for their tireless efforts in this investigation,” Sheriff Michelle Cook was quoted as saying in a release obtained by First Coast News. The sheriff's appreciation also extended to the community for their assistance.
At the time of the incident, the soccer field was reportedly occupied by roughly 30 people. The authorities arrived on the scene to investigate the shooting, which was the result of a conflict between Ludwig and the victim, both of whom were known to each other. Ludwig now faces three counts of attempted murder.
The juvenile victim, whose injuries were described as non-life-threatening, was taken to the hospital for treatment immediately after the shooting. As Sheriff Cook stressed in a statement provided to News4Jax, "This reckless and senseless act of violence endangered the lives of innocent children and families." Thankfully, there were no additional injuries reported from the crime scene.
