The Federal Bureau of Investigation has named Jeremy Schwartz as the new Special Agent in Charge of the Las Vegas Division. This announcement comes following a significant shakeup within the office, initiated by the Trump administration. Schwartz, previously the Assistant Special Agent in Charge, will be stepping into the role effective immediately, according to a spokesperson for the bureau.
As reported by FOX5 Vegas, the changes abruptly follow after Spencer Evans was let go from his position - a post he held for over two decades. The two had previously collaborated on the investigation of a car bombing at the Trump Hotel on New Year’s Day. Jeremy Schwartz will now to quickly take over the reins as the interim director, as confirmed by FBI officials.
Spencer Evans' dismissal aligns with the Department of Justice's broader request for senior FBI leadership to resign or face termination, a request set in motion by new leadership under the Trump administration. Although Evans had joined the Las Vegas office in 2022 and appeared to be at the forefront of high-profile investigations, such as the recent bombing situation, his current employment status remains unclear. His name and photo were still featured on the office's website as of last Friday.
The recent appointment of Jeremy Schwartz was also similarly covered by 8 News Now, highlighting the administrative shake-up. Former FBI Director Christopher Wray had previously resigned before President Trump's inauguration, marking another pivotal shift in the bureau's leadership. "Asst. Special Agent in Charge Jeremy Schwartz was leading the bureau’s Southern Nevada office until further notice," stated a bureau spokesperson according to 8 News Now.
