Kīhei residents are advised of a full-scale training exercise taking place tomorrow at the Bayer Facility, located at 2111 Piʻilani Highway. According to a press release from the County of Maui, the exercise will begin at 6 a.m. and involve multiple agencies, including MEMA, the Maui Fire Department, Maui Police Department, Emergency Medical Services, and the Hawaiʻi National Guard’s 93rd Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Response Team.
For those in proximity, prepare for potential noise and a simulation of emergency scenarios. According to the official statement, the 93rd CST comprehensive training aims to replicate incidents like active shooter situations, casualty management, encounters with drug labs, as well as HAZMAT and CBRN responses, though the exercise won't involve live ammunition, or actual hazardous agents. Instead, first responders will operate with blanks and simulated materials, ensuring no real threat to public safety or the environment.
The purpose of this exercise is to improve preparedness and coordination among the various units involved in emergency response. Officials have stated that the training is purely procedural and not related to any real-world threats. For more information, individuals can contact MEMA at (808) 270-7285 or visit their website for details on the agency's activities and responsibilities.
