Those grappling with the perils of creekbank erosion can now confidently wage war against nature's wear and tear. According to a news release on the City of Knoxville's website, a hands-on Creekbank Repair Workshop scheduled for March 7 will equip property owners with the necessary skills to prevent and remediate erosion damage.
The workshop, which will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City of Knoxville Public Works Service Center, will bring together expertise from the University of Tennessee, Knox County Stormwater, City of Knoxville Stormwater Management, and additional local partners. Participants can expect to discover a range of cost-effective methods for stabilizing eroded creek banks and ensuring the well-being of the aquatic ecosystems that flourish within them.
Morning sessions will educate attendees on various field techniques like bank-shaping using hand tools, erosion control measures, live staking, and incorporating native plants into their stabilization strategies. After this, lunch is included in the workshop fee, allowing participants to refuel before heading out for the on-site field application at Spring Place Park. As the City of Knoxville's website reported, "Materials, tools and supplies will be available for participants, who should wear appropriate footwear and bring a pair of work gloves."
Attendees will arrange transportation between the classroom sessions and the field site. The full-day workshop costs a reasonable $30 per person and includes lunch.
