Amidst the dusty glamour of Indio's Empire Polo Club, home to both an iconic music festival and this year's 2025 Coachella Valley Invitational, the LA Galaxy secured a 2-1 victory over Minnesota United FC on Wednesday in a game that saw rising star Tucker Lepley net both goals for the Galaxy as they notched their first win of the preseason, as reported by LA Galaxy.
The first goal came in the 50th minute when Jeorgio Kocevski delivered what can only be described as a precision-guided pass to Lepley, who made no mistake in converting from inside the 18-yard box. Meanwhile, the second strike featured Miguel Berry providing the assist for Lepley to chip the ball over the onrushing Minnesota keeper, but not to be counted out, Minnesota's Anthony Markanich managed to chest down a corner-kick delivery and fire a shot into the far corner to pull one back for the Loons, as detailed by LA Galaxy.
On the other side, Minnesota United FC recounted their opportunities and how they fell just short in this competitive preseason outing, with Joaquín Pereyra and Tani Oluwaseyi threatening to score, though ultimately it would be a delivery from Hassani Dotson that provided their only goal, a close-range finish by Markanich, as per Our Sports Central.
Going forward, the Galaxy are set to conclude their stint at the invitational against Chicago Fire FC on Saturday, February 15, and Minnesota United FC will also continue their pre-season preparations against NYCFC on the same day, proving readiness and resilience will be key as both teams sharpen their tactics and lineups in anticipation of the MLS Regular Season kick-off, which for the Galaxy begins with a clash against San Diego FC on February 23, LA Galaxy noted.
