Responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) were dispatched to a maritime emergency in the Los Angeles Harbor on Friday, as a 35-foot commercial boat began sinking near the Los Angeles Harbor Light. According to an LAFD report, the incident, referenced as Incident number 0851, was called in at 12:27 p.m., prompting both ground and water teams to rush to the site.

The LAFD's initial response involved "simultaneous dewatering and tow operations," with trained divers entering the harbor's waters to aid in the recovery process, as CBS Los Angeles reported.

Later in the afternoon, the LAFD sent out an updated alert informing the public that the sinking vessel had been stabilized by 02:45 p.m. Multiple agencies, including LA County Lifeguards, Long Beach Lifeguards, and the Coast Guard, collaborated on the scene to manage the emergency. An examination of the vessel revealed a hole in the bow, port side, whose cause was undetermined at the time, as per the LAFD statement.

Ongoing operations not only stemmed the intake of water but also allowed the damaged boat to be transported to a nearby slip. No further updates, the LAFD noted.
