Iona Pollard, a Lamar CISD instructional coach, was found fatally shot in her Richmond home last Sunday. The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene at the 8900 block of Rocky Knoll Lane and arrested her husband, David Pollard, shortly after noon. He has been in custody in connection with the incident. David Pollard has served as the district’s school safety coordinator since 2020. Authorities have not confirmed whether the Pollard children were home, but neighbors believe they were not present, according to Click2Houston.
"It is with profound sadness that I share with you a tragic loss that has deeply affected our district family," wrote Superintendent Dr. Roosevelt Nivens, in a letter sent by the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office to FOX 26. "We extend our deepest condolences to the Pollard children, their families, friends, and all who knew Iona, particularly her colleagues and students at George Junior High." Counseling and support services will be available for those affected, as reported by Click2Houston.
The Richmond community experienced an incident of violence, prompting reactions from neighbors. Alex Priester told FOX 26, "They connected with us and the husband, the father we usually talk share stories about work, about life, about our kids, raising families, we often share food like barbecue, you know, just sharing our love for each other." In response, Lamar CISD announced that support services will be available to students and staff starting on Monday.
