Residents of a Las Cruces neighborhood were jolted awake early Sunday morning as a fire ravaged a mobile home, leaving three people without a place to call home. The Las Cruces Fire Department rushed to the scene in the 200 block of Three Crosses Avenue after receiving a call at about 12:50 a.m., according to the City of Las Cruces. They battled flames and smoke to prevent the blaze, which was under control within half an hour, from spreading to other homes in the vicinity.
While no physical injuries were reported, the fire inflicted collateral wounds on the community infrastructure. An adjacent mobile home suffered damage, and powerlines, singed by the heat, triggered an outage that left several neighborhood dwellings in the dark. El Paso Electric teams worked persistently through the post-midnight hours, restoring electricity and a sense of normalcy to the affected residents, as detailed by the City of Las Cruces.
In the face of displacement, support materialized swiftly. The American Red Cross stepped in to ensure that the fire's immediate victims had temporary housing, a testament to the community's resilience and readiness to assist in times of crisis.
