Sen. Neal, elected to represent District 4 in 2020, has requested privacy while recovering from surgery with her family. District 4 includes parts of central Las Vegas and North Las Vegas. Before her Senate position, she served in the Nevada Assembly for ten years. Neal is the daughter of the late Joe Neal, the first Black individual elected to the Nevada Senate, as noted by News 3 Las Vegas.
