Barbers across Nevada are set to participate in the fourth edition of Read With My Barber, an initiative coinciding with Nevada Reading Week in 2025. The program aims to encourage literacy by turning barbershop chairs into reading spaces for local youth. According to an announcement from the City of Las Vegas, participating barbers can contribute by wearing event T-shirts, sharing books in their shops, and offering free haircuts to children who read aloud during their haircut.
The kickoff event is scheduled for March 3 at Masterpiece Barber College, where children can receive a free haircut in exchange for reading a book. The Las Vegas My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, Masterpiece Barber College, and the city support the Read With My Barber program, emphasizing the city’s focus on literacy and community development. From March 3-7, barbers will provide haircuts and also participate as readers at local elementary schools, engaging with both students and the community.
