The Badlands Golf Course, once a popular Las Vegas leisure spot, will be replaced by a new housing development. After a lengthy legal dispute, the Las Vegas City Council approved Lennar Homes' plans for the site at Alta Drive and Rampart Boulevard. The approval follows the settlement of the city's legal battle over previous plans for the property, which includes a hiring freeze for most city positions, according to News 3 LV.
Lennar Homes is set to develop a site with 1,480 residential units, including single-family homes, condos, townhomes, and luxury residences, along with 98 acres of open space and a park, as reported by KTNV. The project will include height restrictions, preservation of existing improvements, and no streetlights on private streets to address concerns from neighboring Queensridge. The city council has approved zoning changes, the site plan, and a tentative map, allowing Lennar to begin site preparation, such as vegetation removal. Construction will require additional traffic and drainage studies and permits before breaking ground.
Stephanie Gronauer, a representative for Lennar Homes, discussed the new development set to replace the Badlands area, stating, "We’ve really worked hard to communicate the best we can. I know they’re not all happy, but I do hope they will be proud of their neighboring community. I know I’ll be proud, I am proud to represent it, and I think it’ll be really exciting for the city." Councilwoman Victoria Seaman expressed her approval, saying, "I don’t think you could’ve done a better job, so thank you." The new development's name will be announced later, and construction timelines are still to be determined. Updates will be provided as the project progresses, as stated by KTNV.
